You have to define "rich". I'm a professional and earn a very good living treating patients as a surgical specialist. I pay nearly 40% of my income in taxes. All of us in this income level do; we are too small to have elite accountants and pay the top rates with very few deductions allowed. Most of those deductions are wiped out by the AMT. The way to get at those Wall Street types is to either tax capital gains as regular income, make one level of taxation for all income or go to a consumption tax like the Fair Tax. Right now guys like me are taking it in the shorts which I suppose is what I deserve for trying to rise up out of the lower middle class.
