Its DNA pattern identifies the unborn child as a unique individual. Empirical science can predict its rate of growth and evoloution over time - both in the womb and later on. The sperm and the egg separately carry the DNA of their host bodies, respectively, so these do not constitute...

...why not just give every resident (legal or illegal) in the United States a guaranteed income (work not required) sufficient for above-poverty living standards. This would, of course, be provided by benevolent Big Government for the entire life of each resident (who survives abortion). Citizens would be free to make more by working or entrepeneurship, however, the surplus over the mandated living income would become a coercive donation (a tax) to Big Government - after all, it's only fair to provide for those not willing to put in any effort to earn their own way and, especially for THE CHILDREN.
