Boehner and the Republicans have only two viabe choices at this point. They eithe go along with most of what Obama wants or they come back with, "This is what you guys said you wanted in August of 2011 and since you still refuse to cut spending nothing has changed, so we're going to have to stick with what you asked for." "If you are not going to cut spending then we do need more taxes, lots more, so we are going to have to raise taxes on everyone. We do not believe this is the best avenue for America but since you guys refuse to be responsible with spending the Tax Payer's money, it's going to take a lot more revenue to avoid a Bigger Cliff."

covey, raising tax rates does not accomplish their stated goal of raising revenue. Lowering tax rates has always had the effect of increasing the revenue to the government. They are raising taxes to punish the successful.

Make it clear that what is now being called the Fiscal Cliff is exactly what the Democrats asked for in the summer of 2011. They weren't willing to cut spending then so letting the Bush Tax Cuts Expire was the only choice. They still aren't willing to cut taxes so now it's time to Pay the Piper.

It’s been a year and half since the GOP and Democrats hammered out an agreement that raised the debt ceiling and put us on the lip of a fiscal cliff, threatening mutually assured destruction if a budget deal wasn’t worked out before January 2013.

It made sense for all sides at the time.

The GOP figured there was a good shot that Obama wasn’t going to be reelected. The Democrats figured there was a good chance shot Obama wasn’t going to be reelected. And Obama was content to do what he did best: run a campaign on TV, eat...
