Darby: Western concern for the status of the individual comes directly from Christ. If we must all have an individual relationship with God through Jesus Christ, then the individual becomes more important than the collective. This is a major change from Judaism. And it is a major challenge to collectivists.

Trublu: It is terrible that we allow people to get away with changing the meaning of words. "Liberalism", in its older meaning, has not failed. The Constitution is a liberal document -- it seeks to guarantee the right of the individual. At some point, we allowed statists (who are actually reactionaries) to hijack the world "liberal". Statism HAS failed and failed miserably. The ONLY hope is to return to true liberalism as embodied in the Constitution.
Kmassey: Senators used to represent the wishes of the state legislature. That "cronyism" you complain of was a feature -- not a bug. It meant that senators had to serve the interests of the state government. Things like unfunded mandates to the states were impossible under that scheme. Now senators represent the the people of large cities. These are often the people who are on welfare.
Whitebeard: I am not saying that we should not point out Obama's negatives, but there must be some positive reason we can point to to vote GOP. Remember, the GOP is not even as popular as Obama. Congress CONSISTENTLY polls worse than Obama does and the GOP gets much of the blame for that -- whether they deserve it or not. Surely, the GOP can come up with SOME candidates who can articulate a reason to vote FOR the GOP. If not, they should shut up shop and go home.
The GOP MUST run on something other than disapproval of Obama if they are to have ANY chance of taking the Senate.

William: Doing more of the same will only make things worse. Leave them alone and watch our borders. Wean ourselves from their oil and soon they will be back to riding camels.
Since FDR, we have been spending the capital it took our forefathers centuries to accumulate. We have spent it all now & can expect poverty for decades to come until we accumulate capital again. Of course no capital accumulation will be possible unless our policies change.
One minor point: The Constitution does not bestow the right to freedom of the press. As the Declaration of Independence points out, our rights come from God.
Tin: Constitution Day is NOT a federal holiday...

Everywhere we go, we hear "Celebrate diversity" -- never "Celebrate unity". In other words, we are told to celebrate the things that divide us but never to celebrate the things that make us one people.
