People who actually discuss reality talk about group averages and statistics. As a huge fan of Thomas Sowell, I would love it if all blacks were like him. Looking at the high school dropout rates and the voting patterns for big government, I would guess that there are actually very few like him.

Like OneFor Freedom said, these are basically the Ron Paul platform and he got traction from a good percentage of the Republican base. Unfortunately, it has absolutely zero traction on the left. As they've shown with Obama doing all the NeoCon Hawk stuff, the left is fine with adventurism abroad just as long as they get thier social agenda taken care of at home. The one thing that appeals to a large part of both the left and right is rule of law. Enforcing the existing laws would have the best support out of all the possible proposals.

Unfortunately, Mr. Stossel would love to open the borders (which would actually protect us if used) to anyone in the world who wants to kill Americans. Thier mindless pursuit of Amnesty trumps any Libertarian outrage over Civil Liberty violations caused by the pursuit of terrorists allowed into the country. Giving up liberty to pursue terrorism is especially frightening when DHS is designating patriot groups as terrorist.

Dr. Sowell is an amazing intellect and stands to give very sage advice on a wide variety of topics. Unfortunately, with the recent charges against MSgt Sommers for his conservative views, I can't give my opinion on this topic because it deals with diversity in the military which is held very near and dear to our leaders' hearts.

Of course Dr. Sowell is correct and explains the issue well. The wages will go up or the farmers will invest in mechanization. Doug, if we would control our borders, we wouldn't have to worry about foreigners attacking us. That includes drunk driving, human trafficking, gang violence, regular street crime, and terrorism.
