You speak the truth my friend. The republicans could do a lot- but they too want to be perceived as somewhat reasonable by the loony left. This was why Reagan was so unique(Reagan made mistakes also but he was willing to go where no conservatives seem willing to go any longer). He played hardball with the left while the Bushes and others (Dole,Ford,Nixon,McCain,Romney etc.) always felt it so necessary to have allies on the left. The left doesnt think that way.
