They'll be a lot less narcissistic and self-involved after they get what they've asked for and have a full generation of unemployment, underemployment, economic malaise, etc.

No they won't. The problem with narcissists is that they don't consider anyone else, it is only their own needs and wants that concern them. As long as the narcissist has his wants met, the manner of the meeting is inconsequential - so hardship for others is meaningless as long as the narcissist's needs are met.

As long as the narcissist's needs are not met, again, the manner of the meeting is inconsequential. His attitude is that he is owed a living (however that is defined) and, regardless of the work he puts in, he should be rewarded with access to all his wants. Again, others' hardship is irrelevent.
