The word translated "miscarriage" in Exodus 21:22 literally means to cause the baby to be born early. If the baby is born early and "there is no other injury", meaning it survives, then punishment is a fine. "But if there is any [further] injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise."

The foundational question is, what is the unborn? If the unborn is not a human being, then no justification for abortion is necessary. If the unborn is a human being, then no justification for abortion is adequate.

So I ask, what is the unborn? Biologically, the unborn is a unique human being genetically from conception. Every human being goes through the same stages of development from conception to adulthood.

I invite readers who are pro-choice to demonstrate that the unborn is not a human being.
