We are seeing the same thing in our area. My wife homeschooled our youngest for three years, and they could cover a whole day's curriculum (five or six subjects, depending on the grade) in about three hours without breaking a sweat. There is a LOT of time taken in public schools "teaching" things that are better learned at home (such as keeping your hands to yourselves). Expect a backlash from the NEA soon.

Who knew? My parents are cool. Homeschooling is becoming hipster. Celebrity parents like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie proudly discuss their homeschooling lifestyle. But pioneers like my parents set the trend of educational freedom.
