The Monroe Doctrine specifically promised that the United States would never undertake to meddle in the domestic affairs of other countries. Any president or secretary of state who has followed a policy of "interventionism," has operated outside of his Constitutional authority. You have heard of the Monroe Doctrine, CORRECT?

The Monroe Doctrine was a policy not a principle. During Monroe's tenure, the United States was always cautious of the UK revisiting the idea of recolonizing; we didn't really have the resources to take them on twice, so the Monroe Doctrine was established to kind of say we won't bother you, you don't bother us.
