A1: It's not bad, as long as their behavior is in line with law and policy. The reason that DADT is effective is that it allows "skilled and brave gay people" to serve, as long as they keep their personal lives to themselves and refrain from homosexual conduct.

A2: Well, the fact is, it doesn't. Having been a military officer for 16+ years and meted out military justice and disciplinary action on numerous occasions, I can tell you that we do our best to treat everyone exactly the same with no preference to any group. If any thing, it is the minorities and women who get preferential treatment in regards to sensitivity training, quotas and harassment policies. Sorry, bud; European nations are in NO way our social or cultural peers. It will be a sad day indeed should that ever be the case. As Ronald Reagan said, "we are a city, shining on a hill." The US leads, we don't follow.

Bravo Zulu, Ollie! Thanks for once again being a clear voice of reason, ethics, and morality for our national security. Yes, despite all the hype and lies, the MAJORITY of combat vets (have served at sea and in Afghanistan) like myself, who are STILL on active duty do not support the repeal, do support the current law, and know that open homosexuality in the ranks will be disastrous...not prejudice, Doofus, just experience talking here. Please, folks, write and call your Congressmen, especially those on the HASC and SASC and let your voices be heard! Our military readiness and national security depend upon it!

The key aspect that has been missing in all the debates, conspicuously, is the challenge to ADM Mullen, and many other misguided folks, as to the validity of the whole "who they are" comments. I was especially dismayed, as was mentioned in the article, at Charles Krauthammer's stance. He lost a tremendous amount of respect from me at that moment, and I wrote him so. I am so relieved and encouraged to finally see a commentator finally declare that the Emperor has...
