Many many many Caucasians in the U.S. have Native American blood, depending on when their European ancestors arrived. One group in my ancestry arrived in the U.S. about 1700. Another in the mid-to-late 1700s. One of my great-great-grandmothers was a Native American.

This is certainly plausible. But it becomes problematic as my wife's research into her ancestry has shown. I can say this with some confidence as I can trace my family back to America in 1633 and her earliest in the 1650's. The problem is that English colonists were loathe to admit any kind of what they would have considered miscegenation; interbreeding with Native Americans. French Canadians were not AS against it as the Brits, but still were somewhat averse to documenting the fact. Since many French Canadians came to the U.S. after the industrial revolution, it became more and more important to suppress any information about Native American heritage.

My wife has had a hard time researching her Native American blood, because her family not only tries to deny that, they were not eager to publicize Catholic French Canadian heritage either.

That's just the way it was.

So I'm thinking that 90% of the blond, blue-eyed claimants are full of chicken poop.

It must be nice to be a liberal Democrat.  Unless you've fathered a child with a campaign staffer while cheating on your cancer-stricken wife, or repeatedly lied about accidentally tweeting photos of your genitals to coeds, the media generally has your back.  Journalists overwhelmingly support Democrats, yet many delude themselves about their own capacity for objectivity.  What would be a "deeply troubling" story if its subject were a conservative magically transforms into a silly and petty distraction, borne of our "divisive politics," if a Democrat happens to be in trouble.  To wit: Lefty
