So, let me get this straight: when the Democrats are in power, the Republican playbook says to refuse to cooperate, be the "party of no", and at the same time, complain that no one is listening to you or involving you. But when the tables are turned, and Republicans have a majority in one of two legislative houses, they start from a radical and unrealistic point. Then, a Democrat says he's willing to work on a compromise bill, you lambast him for being willing to work with you? It's a good thing that for the Republicans that the Democrats have been glacially slow in catching onto your ruse.
Oh, I forgot the part where you implied that the US should've continued to support Mubarak instead of supporting the Egyptian people's rights to choose their own rulers. She supported "throwing him under the bus" in your words, because apparently "the Arab street" doesn't qualify for the rights we say we treasure here.
Wow, Mr. Shapiro, you must be living on a different planet than Earth if you intended what you wrote in your article to be taken seriously. I get that you don't like this woman, but could you at least do a little research before posting your crazy and wild accusations? Israel isn't responsible for any human rights violations? Apparently, you're unaware of the occupation, curfews, settlements, and collective punishment imposed on the Palestinians by Israel? Perhaps you're unaware of the indefinite detentions of people kidnapped from their beds in their family homes as part of IDF "round up" operations? But I don't think you're unaware. I think you've chosen to ignore these facts because they don't agree with your "Israel can do no...

And what was so bad about the ERA?

I'm so glad that you were able to choose a lifetstyle that you find fulfilling, but please understand that there were a lot of women who wanted to make different choices and were treated poorly by many men as a result. Feminists should not denigrate women who do want to stay home, raise a family, and do whatever else they choose. It only ends up hurting women as a whole. But feminism is not what has "brought women down". Feminism is what has made it possible for women like me to have a career without the stigma attached to it in my mother's and grandmother's generations. It has succeeded in making people aware that there's nothing wrong with not following the "typical" life pattern expected of a woman prior to the late 20th century,...

I can agree with encouraging people not to wear incredibly tight clothing, pants with "juicy" or "pink" written across the backside, and not showing a lot of skin. I asked the poster to clarify to see what her specific views were. People do lose respect in my book if they dress like hookers, but that doesn't mean they don't have the freedom to. I just want to make sure this isn't a person who believes women shouldn't be allowed to wear pants or some such nonsense like that, or that women need to be wearing their dresses and aprons every day when the husband comes home from work.

For starters, why don't you enumerate what's wrong with the way "we" dress?

So now you're a mind reader, but apparently, you have trouble doing actual reading when I say "developing countries." You're either unwilling or unable to understand what I'm talking about, so it's clear there's no having a reasonable conversation with you.

Who said anything about abortion? I was speaking about contraception and family planning. Take a look at what happens when women have access to birth control and education in the developing world. Family sizes shrink to a level where women and their husbands can provide adequately for the education, feeding, and shelter of their children. They can get out of poverty, and that's exactly what they're doing.

You show a disturbing lack of understanding in history. Greece and Rome were very restrictive about what women could do and how they were treated. As I've said above, in Roman society, women did not even possess their own personal names in most cases. They were simply called the female version of the family's surname. They were treated as property to be bartered away in marriage without their consent. They were expected to stay out of public life and did not have much in the way of property rights. Not exactly what I'd call a golden age for women's choice or rights. I'm outraged by the way women are treated in much of the world. It's why I'm an unqualified advocate for women's rights no matter which country or culture we're talking...
