For the record, Obama was not a law professor at the U of Chgo. His title was senior lecturer, which is 3 steps below the rank of professor and one step up from the lowest pay grade, which is lecturer. When Obama claimed certain knowledge to be "above my pay grade" he wasn't kidding.

It is unclear how much teaching he actually did. Much of the time he was working on his books, in suspected collaboration with Bill Ayers. His first, "Dreams ... " was supposed to be on race relations. Instead he wrote an autobiography with musings.

I know you didn't intend to aggrandize Obama, Mr. Barone.

I try to correct this every chance I get. None other than the NYTimes started calling Obama a professor early in his...

The Strange, Sad Death of Journalism

The revenue formula for newspapers many years ago was 1/3 from circulation sales and 2/3rds from advertising. The size of the newshole was dictated by the run-of-paper advertising linage that was sold for the day so that the newspaper could run about 2 lines of news and editorial for 3 lines of advertising, or whatever formula they chose. Circulation revenue was used to support circulation sales and delivery, and was seldom a profit-producer by itself.

The obvious answer for newspapers is to deliver by the Internet. There is an opportunity there for sound, positive positioning, that should provide advertising revenue.

To do that successfully, newspapers are going to have to recapture the best of what they once...

Is the Church Militant Back?

...put your money where your mouth is.

What you choose to call "human rights," which means government funded abortions, are not rights at all.

But since there is a conflict between your perception of human rights and the beliefs of the Catholic Church on abortion it would show integrity for you to publicly deny one or the other. And if you deny the Church than don't accept any further services from the Church, including communion.

If you can't be a Catholic then don't be.

The Catholic Church has been around for 2,000 years and was founded by a more auspicious Personage than any Kennedy. Are you really so arrogant that you think the Church should modify their teaching to allow for your views?

... has never changed. No one needs a new directive from the Catholic Church. We all know what the stance is.

I'm not Catholic. I support the Catholic stance on this issue.

Killing a fetus is not a right. Preventing a fetus from being created if you don't want a fetus is a responsibility that can be met a number of ways. Liberals don't understand the difference between rights and responsibilities.

Aside from the commonly accepted exceptions to denial of abortions -- like incest, rape, etc. -- payment for abortions should not be provided by a federal health control program, either directly or indirectly by any of the nefarious means that politicians find to circumvent straightforward legislation.

If you call the mention of union goons classic bull, you're a wet-behind-the-ears Alice in Wonderland believer in the tooth fairy. Get caught up on reality instead of hanging with Tinker Bell.

I've been a Teamster. I had to be. It was a closed shop.

I listened as my boss was chewed out one day by the union agent. The grievance? A teamster had been asked politely 3 times not to throw paint cans because that damaged them. The 4th time the job boss told the guy pointedly "don't throw the cans." That was the grievance.

My point of view was that if the guy didn't want to do the job the way the boss wanted it done he shouldn't have taken the job in the first place. The union wants the worker to be loyal to the...

Sweet Tea for Convention Attendees

Substantial experience in market research and polling has revealed to me that pastors of black churches wield immense power. First, unlike their white brethren, to many blacks their church is an integral part of their lives. Many attend more often than once a week.

They follow the dictates of their pastors who tell them what they need to do, sometimes in the context of religious obligations. This gets into politics.

Some years ago I did the polling for a ballot gambling initiative. Poll numbers showed it winning by 20%. On Election Day it won by a very narrow margin.

Learned afterward was that the black clergy in the area opposed the issue and told their congregations to vote against it. Congregation members...

Like Col. North I've also studied the teaching of Sun Tzu. Besides war, it has applications in business, especially in marketing.

Two teachings came through loud and clear to me, which I summarize:

(1) Convince your enemy you will prevail and they will be defeated because you have the "way" to do so. If you are convincing enough your enemy may decide that war with you will be futile.

(2) Keep your war strategy hidden from your enemy. This would certainly include the truth about the number of soldiers you will put into battle, when you will do so, where you will do so, and for how long you will engage the enemy.

This has been known for well over 2,000 years. When will our President and Secretary of State...
