Now, perhaps, even those who haven't been paying attention may start asking questions of this guy's rise to power.

The down side:

There are simply too many cult members who just won't ever get it.
In any accurate assessment of the effects of the radical women's movement, what was removed is as significant as what was added.

If they had simply settled for reform rather than radicalizing, perhaps our society would be better off, but my assessment of the effects is a negative one and the rise in divorce and extra-marital affairs, with all the attendant negative sociological conditions can be directly laid at the feet of the radicals.

Most young women I meet today are attractive in one way or another but I seldom meet one who, if I were a young man today, would make me feel that if I wanted to win her, I'd better become a better man.

Read Wendy Shalit's "Return to Modesty" for a good exposition of something...
TH is is the only place he can get even a modicum of serious attention.

If the ever increasing accumulation of societal acceptance, politically enforced rights, and preferential treatment the homosexuals have acquired since the 60's has failed to provide the peace and contentment your post to me indicates that you lack, what makes you think that assuming a facsimile of a religious institution will do it?

Might I suggest that something is broken and until it is put right, all the searching for the authentic life you guys are doing will only result in more misery.

"Are there any issues that a secular society should consider in this fight?

By accepting the notion of a secular society, you have just conceded the argument.

None of the arguments you posit in opposition to the idea of homosexual "marriage" carry any weight in a society informed solely by secular reasons since, in a secular society, all values are relative and in constant flux dependent upon who has the most political power.

There is only one legitimate reason to be opposed to the notion that two men or two women having serial sexual relationships with each other constitutes the same legitimacy as marriage between a man and a woman and that is that it violates God's naturally ordained order.
Sort of like a dark cloud. Or a bird of carrion.

would have recognized the impropriety of awarding the prize to an undeserving recipient and, seeking to refrain from reducing its significance even further, would have politely refused it.

Alas, those types of souls no longer inhabit the higher echelons of our Republic.
"SO tell me all you defenders of Military gays being out in the open, WHAT do you hope to accomplish? "

The reduction to insignificance of one more example of settled convictions.
Yes there is. It is somoen who is obsessed with sex.
