A friend in Phoenix was the victim of an attempted home invasion. It took the police a little under 4 minutes to get there. He repelled the invaders through the use of a 12 gauge pump and a 9mm handgun, but in the time between when he sent them packing and the police arrived, the intruders caused $23000 worth of damage to his house by spraying it with gunfire in frustration at being denied in their attempt to rob him. Last I heard, the criminals were still at large. But he's still alive and well and his insurance company paid for the damage.

After riots swept parts of the United Kingdom last year, I wrote about the moral argument for gun ownership. Simply stated, it is wrong to disarm law-abiding people, particularly when there is a risk of societal breakdown.

The same argument is equally applicable in the areas ravaged by the recent storm to hit the northeastern United States. As you can see from this report in the New York Post, the government is failing in its responsibility to provide law and order.
