Marijuana: Another Gift of the Left to America's Youth

A number of conservatives appear to be opposed to laws that prohibit the sale and use of the mind-altering, mind-numbing gateway drug, marijuana. You may not be aware of it but if you want to legalize marijuana, you are adopting a leftist mind set, a leftist way of thinking that is counter to the thinking that motivated our founding fathers to declare our nation's independence and establish the rule of law through our Constitution. Notice, I'm not questioning your conservatism, I'm just pointing out that it is a leftist mindset that says, "Don't try to use laws to push YOUR morality on ME." Such a mindset tends to ignore the fact that "no man is an island." Marijuana use affects us all, not just the user.

You don't have to love marijuana to say that the "War on Drugs" has been detrimental to civil liberties. Marijuana laws may affect us all, but so do asset forfeiture laws, no knock search warrant laws, mandatory minimum sentences, and so on. Is it a "leftist mindset" to have a problem with the USA leading the world in imprisonment? Is the only solution to the marijuana problem to have the government behave like everyone's parents? What else are you willing to apply the "no man is an island" litmus test to? Because there are plenty of people out there who would say the same thing about the second amendment, and even the first amendment.

And before you say marijuana isn't mentioned in the Constitution, I'll remind you that makes it a tenth amendment issue.

Allan60, Obamacare makes everything you business. Everything you eat
or drink...whether you exercise or ride a's all my business now.

The simple minded libertarians that voted for Obama have sealed the fate of the
Libertarian movement.
By design, Obamacare destroys everything those college kids stood for.

Obama isn't a libertarian, nor does he have any legitimate claim to represent the movement. Ron Paul was the far more libertarian candidate. And I could just as easily say that the simpleminded people who voted for torture and war sealed the fate of the "conservative" movement. The fact of the matter is that neither party represents real individual liberty regardless of the fact that dumb people continue to vote for them.

Denver television station CBS4 reports that Colorado has seen a sharp spike in marijuana use among teenagers since Colorado voters passed Amendment 64 last November legalizing recreational use of the drug. As described in The Economist, along with a Washington State measure also legalizing marijuana, Amendment 64 is "an electoral first not only for America but for the world."

That means two American states are to the left of the Scandinavian countries, Holland, and every other liberal country regarding marijuana.

CBS4 quotes a number of local high school students:

"I've seen a lot more people just walking...
