This column is talking in the right direction. Clarifying our position and taking the offense will be needed. I must differ about a tangental point it made where is said "the Bush Administration put us a in a terrible situation in Iraq by invading without having the slightest idea that our troops would end up policing the country for nearly a decade." The whole reason Bush Sr. stopped short of invading Iraq during the first gulf war was precisely because he knew it would be a quagmire and he assured the public at this time by saying there will be "No more Vietnams." And considering he was Bush's father, Bush Jr certainly had a pretty good idea that what did happen, and what Bush Sr. thought would happen, may well happen.

The only answer anyone ever seems to be able to offer to that question these days is, "Because the Democrats are worse." However, the problem with being the lesser of two evils is that you're still an evil.

Well, what about the GOP's principles?

Name something that the Republican Party stands for today.
