Chicago Politics Targets High Court

To the Left, anything Conservative or Republican is simply illegitimate. Therefore, they can disparage, ridicule, and ignore anything done by the Republicans in government at all levels.

Union Power - Symptom of What Ails Us

I have worked in right-to-work states and in states that allow union shops, and I much prefer the former, even though I joined the union in the right-to-work states. The difference is that where union shops are the rule, freedom to choose isn't . And the unions are much less responsive to input from their members. So they are much more liberal. And if the worker isn't liberal, s/he gets no consideration or respect from the union.
As a former teacher who worked in a Right-to-work state (Utah) and a closed shop state (Washington), I can tell you unequivocally that the Utah Education Association (UEA) is much more responsive to its members than is the Washington Education Association (WEA). Where there is a monopoly, there is little incentive to provide good service, and dues are higher. Where teachers have the option to opt out of the union without penalty, the union has to provide good service or its members will leave.
The establishment clause in the first amendment refers to establishing an official state religion, not to people privately practicing their religion or stating their beliefs in the public forum. In fact, the very next clause states that the government cannot prevent the free exercise of religion, although many are attempting to do just that through the "separation of church and state" argument, which is not part of the Constitution or any other of the founding documents.
Unfortunately, many college or university students think they are expressing their own liberal views when what they are doing is parroting their professors' liberal views, no thought involved.
My wife has multiple sclerosis. We have tried CFL bulbs in our house. They cause her to have severe headaches and other symptoms due to their flickering as well as the color of the light they emit. I don't see the flickering, but she does. I have also found that they do not last as long as they are purported to; in fact, incandescents usually last longer and do not break as easily. I did not know that they required special clean-up procedures when we were using them and I disposed of them in the regular garbage.

Shortcut to Redemption

Prison sentences are too long, and execution is underused. If a criminal is a danger to other members of society, s/he should be executed. If the criminal is guilty of property crimes, s/he should be required to make restitution while in a supervised work situation. If s/he refuses to work to make restitution, s/he is a danger to other members of society and the alternative above should apply. Those who are imprisoned should be required to study to upgrade their skills so that they will be able to contribute to society when they are released. Once they are released, having fulfilled their "debt to society," they should be welcomed back into society without prejudice, and if they repeat offend, they should be treated as a danger to...
The question depends on whether we are evolved beings or created beings and whether we are a unique creation or one of many creations of God. If we are evolved beings with intelligence, it is likely that in the infinite universe there are also other evolved beings with intelligence. Whether or not they would resemble us is something that we can only conjecture. If we, and the universe, are creations of God, why would He not create other life forms in His image on other planets as He did with us? Since, as far as I know, we have no verifiable contact with intelligent beings from other planets, the answer to these questions can only be obtained scientifically when or if we have such contact. I personally believe in God and...

So Much for "Core Conservative Values"

re: Elvis Reagan won in part because he didn't deeply offend moderates by emphasizing his social conservatism. But he didn't shy away from it either. If you read or listen to his weekly radio addresses, he did talk about social issues. He had a strong personal moral code that he advocated just as he did his fiscal conservative views.

One of the lies perpetrated by the Left is the old bromide, "You can't legislate morality." This became a mantra of the Left during the 1960's, which I remember well, although I'm sure it was a minority view before then. The fact is, our Constitution is based on the morality of the overwhelmingly Christian founding fathers found in the Bible. It could never have been created otherwise. Slavery existed in nearly every nation at the time of the founding of our country. Ours was the first to create the foundation for the elimination of slavery: the idea expressed in the Declaration of Independence that "...all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights..." Then these principles were...
