MC - your first "untruth" is only an untruth in your mind. I won't argue whether people are inherently logical, but the truth is that the vast majority of people CAN plan/delay for the future despite immediate desires. The fact is that many of them CHOOSE not to. There is a big difference between ability and choice. You mention people truly in need of assistance - I'm all for providing that assistance at some level. The problem is that our "safety net" is used by too many not as an emergency stop-gap measure, but as a way of life.
I've enjoyed many of Jackson's movies, but his comments fall squarely into the "don't quit your day job" category... (What is it that makes actors think that anybody gives a rat's arse what they think about politics?)
More jobs does not equal employment growth. We are not creating enough jobs to even keep up with population growth. Unemployment numbers are only going down because of the masses of people giving up and leaving the workforce, and the convoluted method that the BLS uses to calculate unemployment. If workforce participation had held steady at 66-67% (as it had for 20 years before 2008; it is below 64% now), the unemployment rate today would be closer to 11%.
How about numbers that actually mean something, Anne? For instance, the labor force participation rate, which essentially bobbed around between 66% and 67% for the twenty years preceding 2008, has plummeted to below 64% as of Jan 2012. So your vaunted "job gains" are obliterated by hundreds of thousands of people leaving the labor force. Congratulations.
Apparently, Ms. Marsden believes sex is as necessary to human survival as food and water. Maybe she should interview some starving 3rd world children - perhaps her twisted perspective would change.

Who is arrogant, GP? Did you actually read the article? "...there is no joy in the death of one who had faith that God does not exist." Anyone who would rejoice in Hitchens' ultimate fate does not have God in his heart - but is a poser, and worse than Hitchens himself. Among the many curiosities of Atheists, you illustrate one of the most telling - the unwavering desire to pick and choose, and if necessary, distort the facts to prove that it is you that have all the answers. (If you have the opportunity, ask a starving child in a third world nation if the life-saving meal they just received from a Christian organization is "unhealthy for humanity"...)

"Mythical Jesus"? Thanks for sharing your ignorance of established historical fact, Tad. May God bless you this Christmas season.
I will exercise my free speech rights and wish you all a Merry Christmas. If you do not celebrate Christmas, feel free to ignore the message. I promise not to have a conniption if you wish me a Happy Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, or whatever. Cheers!
There's something to be learned from all these guys, and they all have their selective entertainment appeal. At the same time, none have all the answers, and they (to my knowledge) are all human, and therefore flawed. Listen to what you want, and use your brain to discern the truth. Just don't swear blind loyalty to any of them... (We all know where the left's blind loyalty to ole' hopey changey has taken us, right?)
