Our oil companies try to follow the law and the regulations. (Who writes them? Keep in mind that BP supports Democrats; research "Elk Hills Oil Reserve", BP, and Bill Clinton.) Russia and China? A law is a means for gov't officials to demand bribes.
"Birds of a feather, flock together." I'm not surprised you know a lot of loons.
So, why is Obama supporting deep sea drilling for oil in the Gulf, by other countries?
Further off topic, but look into the environmental law suits. The lawyers get paid under the "Equal Access to Justice" act, by forming non profit "environmental" groups, and hiring themselves to sue the feds for frivolous things.
Well, someone has guns, because someone is shooting at the police and the military.
Please pass along my congratulations on being able to whip up something like that so fast. Wow.

Sputnik Moment -- or GM Moment?

I am totally baffled by what Obama could possibly have meant by "Sputnik moment". The Sputnik was the result of international competition, the realization that we were not the best, and we had better get off our butts, stop wasting money on other stuff, and get to working in order to regain the position as "The World's Best Nation". I just don't see Obama going along with that.
I've had two start smoldering. The one next to my bed worked okay for about 3 years, but the statements about them shattering by themselves had me looking for incandescents. I replaced the CFL the same evening I learned of the problem. No more CFLs for me.
The problem is not "enviornmentalists" so much, it's non profit corporations being set up for the purpose of bringing lawsuits against the federal government. The NFPs are created by lawyers, the lawyers form most of the Board of Directors, they "hire" themselves to bring the lawsuits, charge themselves for the work, and submit an application for reimbursement from the fedgov. I don't recall the name of law that lets them do that, at the moment. The purpose is to get paid, not to protect the enviornment, and that's why so many of the things the US fedgov ends up doing actually hurts the enviiornment.

A Solution at Obama's Fingertips

"I already noted that there are currently no cost-effective ways to extract oil from shale." I see. So, Canada's oil shale operation isn't really extracting any oil?
