Brilliant economist and communicator. Incompetent student of history. Sowell's distain for Lincoln is an embarrassment to us all.

And YOUR credentials? Do you EVEN know the lengths he goes to in substantiating his books? He culls from ALL sources. I venture to guess the same is not true of you.

Dr. Sowell doesn't have time to troll. The hallmark of someone whose credentials are validated.

Sorry, but I was once a Lincoln worshiper, and my middle name is Lincoln. After reading The Red Badge of Courage as a child and seeing the movie of the same, I began to see the truth. It took many years, but I finally saw what Karl Marx saw in Lincoln, the perfect prototype for communist revolution. Marx congratulated Lincoln for his glorious victory over the south. The acts committed against freed southern soldiers were horrific, poisoned water, mowed down with Gatling guns, used as target practice. Lincoln was an opportunistic despot who wanted to be an emperor. He had the US army band play a bar room drinking song after the Gettysburg address because the mood was too somber. He was a racist until it became expedient to change.

The Civil War was laced with martyrs, on both sides. Lincoln was the most prominent and influential of them all.

Read "The REAL Lincoln" by Thomas DiLorenzo.
You will never see the despotic Lincoln in the same light again.

Looking VERY hard to find anything to tear down another USA hero, Rondoman?

Sowell didn't tear down Lincoln. he showed the right paths he took...and then the critical turn.

It required almost 60 years of deprogramming before I saw the truth. I do not take change easily. I memorized the Gettysburg address and thought that Lincoln was a far more honorable man than Washington. I would suggest that before you reject what I have said that you do some unbiased research. It was painful for me but shed a great deal of light on why racism ever developed in America. It was primarily due to the stupidity of Lincoln's war which began as a drive for government control and then was disguised as a black liberation movement. I am a Bible believing conservative Christian and have been since I was 13 years old.

I plunged into Thomas Sowell's latest book "Intellectuals and Race" immediately upon its arrival but soon realized that I needed to slow down. Many writers express a few ideas with a great cataract of words. Sowell is the opposite. Every sentence contains at least one insight or fascinating statistic, frequently more than one. His newest offering is only 139 pages (excluding notes), but tackles a huge question -- the damage that bad ideas on matters of race peddled by self-satisfied intellectuals have had and continue to have on the world.

Race is almost a national psychosis for Americans, distorting our...
