NAFTA had nothing to do with India and China and the myriad other countries where less expensive labor and and costs inevitably direct competition. Don't begrudge NAFTA. FOr years we have been migrating to a service economy where the educated flock for more pay.

When the US vacated the gold standard in the early 30's. That enabled all of the money supply and interest rate manipulation. It was thought to temper the swings but actually exacerbated the swings.

Spending is the enemy. Until we get Federal spending significantly reduced (and not just the typical military cuts but real reform like gutting useless depts. like eduation and energy et al) the troubles will continue.
