No Profit in Protecting Pregnant Teens

You are so right. I'm convinced that we'll never be able to do away with abortion until it stops benefiting irresponsible men.

I'll always wonder how many abortions Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton paid for.
Forgive me if this is a double posting, but the site does some funny things at times.

Halle Berry first annoyed me when she blubbered and whined about being the first black actress to win an Academy Award.

Uh, no, she wasn't. Hattie MacDaniels, born here in Wichita, Kansas, won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mammy in "Gone with the Wind."

Here in Wichita we're proud of our own. But perhaps in Hollyweird it isn't PC to admit she won for her role as a slave---and not just any slave, but a strong, loyal, and loving woman who was arguably the real strength of her white family.

So Halle, just shut up. You're standing on the shoulders of a giantess, who was far more deserving of her Academy Award than you.

The Eyjafjallajokull Volcano

Many years ago as a grad student in German,3
I took a year's course in Old Norse. It was fascinating, as I enjoyed seeing how it related to German and to English.

I'm a bit rusty, but I'd say the name breaks down to "Eyja" (probably someone's proper name) "fjall," related to English "Fell"--a cliff or mountain, and "Jokull," a crater.

I'd be happy to be corrected by someone with a little more recent expertise.

Thanks, Gayle and Old Prof, for some great day-brighteners!

Meanwhile, my mind keeps ruminating on "Oh Susahhan!" Maybe something like,

"I come from Old Chicago.... Oh, Obama." Any finishes?

I strongly suspect that the two women accusing Big Ben Roethlisberger of rape are motivated by---what else?--money. You'll note that outraged females never seem to accuse the quarterback of Hicksville. Nope....follow the money.

Abort Abortion

I never could understand how pro-abortion Democrats can't understand that with every aborted baby they are aborting a future voter and taxpayer.

You'd think that if moral arguments can't get through to these amoral monsters, pragmatism might.

I always wished I could figure out a snappy bumper sticker to the effect that "I'm pro-life and I'm producing more future voters than you are."

You wrote, "You, as an idiot male, cannot understand what it feels like to walk through a world filled with potential rapists."

That's exactly what our military men are going to experience when you liberals succeed in forcing active, cruising homosexuals upon normal heterosexual males in confined environments. Happy now?

You also wrote, "Further, office sexual harasment policies have been a boon to women in the workplace. Where I used to work, a guy was always hitting on women and making unwanted sexual remarks to them."

Welcome to the real world, which is inhabited by many jerks. My mother taught me, as I taught my girls in turn, that because there are always jerks in the world, we have to learn to deal with...

Thank you, Silver Lion, for mentioning the 54th Mass. Anyone who's been to the movies in the last 20 years or so should be familiar with the great film "Glory."

Howver, the 54th Mass. was *not* the first all-black regiment. That honor goes to the 1st Kansas Colored Troops, recruited by Kansas Sen. Jim Lane. The 1st Kansas saw action in October 1862 (Island Mound, Missouri) some months before the 54th Mass.

Of course, no one made a movie about the 1st Kansas :-P or more people might know about it.

Incidentally, one of my favorite scenes from "Glory" involves Col. Shaw being shocked at the way the Irish drill sergeant is treating his longtime friend. The sergeant looks Shaw in the eye and says, "Let him grow up."...

Hillary Invades Canada!

My son recently had the great thrill of attending the Vancouver Olympic Games. He came back with nothing but praise for the friendliness and hospitality of Canadians. I cringe to think that Her Imperial Thighness is how we repay Canada for all their hard work and generosity. I myself had the chance to travel in Alberta and British Columbia in the '70s and loved the land and the people.

Canadians, please accept my apologies for the disgusting behavior of someone many of us Americans wish we could disown. This, too, shall pass---but the sooner, the better.

As a postscript, I've long thought what Douglas #30 has written. In killing off nearly 50 million people, we have seriously undercut ourselves economically, not to...
