So this means that we need an ever increasing military budget that is over 10 times larger than our nearest rival to ensure our prosperity, just like the Soviet Union did.

Are you a complete IDIOT, lefty! Our military budget is miniscule compared to the entitlements! Do you leftists EVER look at the numbers?

Why does it have to be one or the other?

I don't know about True Conservative, canetoad, but I certainly am when it comes to government action. It is the job of government to protect the people from force and fraud, not to be their grocer. Sadly, protecting the people from force and fraud sometimes requires killing people.

Obviously YOU are more in favor of Stupidity! The welfare budget is orders of Magnitude beyond defense spending....approaching 2/3 of the Entire Federal Budget! And you want them to take MORE from the producers in this they can STAY on Welfare???

I am more in favor of killing people who need it than feeding people who don't.

Don't refer to anyone challenging an overly fat and wasteful defense budget as "leftist idiot". I have been republican 44 years, have served 6 years in army during vietnam, a proud veteran ever sincem regardless, The defense budget is ASSININE and has NOTHING to do with nation's defense. It is nothing but investment economy for corrupt politicians and government leaches. We were getting by fine on $200 billion in 2000, now we've spent $1.1 trillion in 2011 on defense, what have we gotten hundreds of billions of waste. It's not about screwing military personnel either, they cost less than $100 billion per year. KILL the corrupt military industrial complex, nothing but slush fund for lobbyists and politicians. Show me any proof otherwise.

The Pentagon budget is $600 billion+.

The Dept of Stupidity is $500 billion+

The welfare bill is $1 trillion and growing.

Which is going to protect and save us?

We need a new foreign policy and we need to spend a lot less money.

That’s the message stock market is telling us.

It’s a message painted in big bold letters and we’d be wise to read it.

We need a foreign policy that uses the proven lessons we learned from the Cold War; a policy that pares back our commitment of troops to combat operations.

We need a fiscal policy that we learned during the 30 years from the 1960s to 1990, when our economy only did well as we restrained government spending to an amount...
