It's Christmas time, and once again it's time for Christians to ignore both the bible and the constitution. My background: I belong to a biblically-based church that does not celebrate Christmas. We feel that because it's not specified in the New Testament, it's a pagan holiday and something that Christians should not participate in. Further, I'm a conservative who is dedicated to the constitution. I feel strongly that there should be no municipal, state or federally funded celebration of Christmas. And all the rest of you Christians should stop getting your panties in such a bunch. Say Happy Holidays and let it be.
I believe you are incorrect about the capital punishment statistics, RedWest. It's actually really common for people to be thrown in jail on very flimsy evidence, and to be given the death penalty on same flimsy evidence. Especially in an election year, when officials want to be known as 'tough on crime', or when someone, anyone, has to be made to pay for some heinous crime.
I'm going to answer myself on this one. Yes, there has been a crime, because laws are not always about common sense; they are about keeping the prisons full of prisoners.
Could one, as a pregnant drug-using mom, get around this by claiming you are intending to abort the child? ESPECIALLY if the mom follows through with the plan and DOES abort. If there's no drug-positive baby, has there been a crime?
