I want to thank James for sparking this conversation that prompted Dr. Tilford to elaborate on his consistently objective analysis of a part of our history. He has shed even more light on the complexity of my beloved Southland. I grew up in Alabama and now live in Louisiana and love this part of our country, and I feel his viewpoint of the dynamics of the civil war courageously go beyond the superficial and delve into the accurate variables in play. I also agree with his conclusion that in spite of horrible tragedies and wrongness on both sides, the outcome was the best for our nation.
