That's a strange statement! I think you don't understand the God of the Christian Bible. By the way, Mr. Rogers was a Christian.

Does Mitt Romney Have Health Insurance?

Carol49 Wrote: Feb 26, 2012 5:50 PM
So true. Insurance winds up dictating to people what kind of health care they can have. But some of us thumb our noses at this. We spend a lot out of pocket for herbs and supplements, which keep us healthier. We also paid a lay midwife to attend the birth of our daughter at home, and then recently paid the same midwife to attend the birth of that daughter's son. The hospital would have been covered, and would have cost many times more, but that's not what we wanted. By the way, insurance companies could save a ton of money if they covered home births.
Rick Santorum does not want to prevent anyone from using contraception. He objects to the government forcing employers and insurers to pay for it, especially if they have moral objections. I heartily agree. Where in the Constitution does it say the government has a right to tell us what must be covered by insurance? Or who must buy insurance? This is tyranny! And the first amendment guarantees freedom of religion--that surely includes not being forced to do something against your conscience. Another thing--I find it strange that no one is talking about how dangerous both abortion and some contraceptive methods are. Abortion and the pill are both implicated in higher rates of breast cancer, as just one of many examples. The IUD...

A Black Man Can

Carol49 Wrote: Jan 26, 2012 6:20 PM
I'm sure there is much truth in this column. However, there are also still times when black men are judged by the actions of others. My black son-in-law was arrested for something he didn't do, when there was absolutely no evidence to connect him to the crime--he was just walking down a public street. Another time, he had a fine to pay. He showed up in court on what he thought was the appointed day, with money in his hand, and the judge threw him in jail because he had misread the document and was one day late. We got him a lawyer, who persuaded the judge he had misjudged this man, who is hardworking and honest. His only crime so far has been being poor and black. He's a wonderful husband to my white daughter, by the way.

Good News From the UN

If the UN really wanted to save energy, it wouldn't have hundreds of delegates traveling so far to posh locations for meetings. They would talk online. And instead of curtailing our lifestyles, why not unleash inventiveness to find new sources of energy? In this amazing world, there must be other ways to find power than burning coal, etc.

Chasing Death

One more story: Moody Monthly some years ago shared the true story of a mother with TB in the days before antibiotics. She was dying of a lung abscess that would not knit together. When she became pregnant, they considered abortion, but she refused. As the pregnancy progressed, the growing baby pressed against her lungs and the abscess closed. She recovered completely from the TB and had a healthy baby girl. The baby saved her life. We don't always know the true situation. We need to trust the Lord and do the right thing.

Chasing Death

Self-defense is not murder. While I would not do it for myself, doctors have performed abortions to save the mother's life long before Roe v. Wade. However, we must be very careful. Medicine is an inexact science and medical tests are frequently wrong. Suppose the ultrasound or other test indicates a defect. What if the test is wrong? Perfectly normal babies have been aborted this way. And it is so rare as to be almost nonexistent that a mother's life cannot be saved without an abortion. A friend had an early c-section due to health problems, and her son, though somewhat premature, survived. So did she.

Let's Kill Cain's Campaign

Carol49 Wrote: Nov 30, 2011 3:57 PM
It will be tragic if an honorable man like Herman Cain is bushwhacked out of the campaign by a pack of lies. The so-called "affair" appears to be a case of a kind man trying to help a needy, troubled woman. Herman's only fault in my eyes is being a little naive about the duplicity of some people. We need to defy the mainstream media and the gleeful democrats and make them sorry they ever stooped to such underhanded tactics. Go, Herman!
Medicaid could save a fortune by providing in-home care instead of nursing homes for many elderly. It would be much cheaper to hire someone to assist family members. My personal plan is to stay in my home till I die. If need be, I'll find a respectable single mother who needs a free place to live in return for taking care of me. There are many other common-sense ways to save money in these programs. Unfortunately, bureaucracies are not known for common sense. That's why it's always better for the private sector to handle these things when possible. Failing in that, the most local level of control possible, the better. Flunkies following a bunch of rules handed down from the federal level are not allowed to use common sense.
