No one is saying to give up on doing the right thing. However, we must temper our plans with some pragmatism. If we can use a failed reform bill to "beat them over the heads" then they can also use it against us. Perhaps it would hurt us less than them, but can you be certain?

Adoption is not a monstrous concept. In your view, the woman does not want the child growing inside her. IF this is true, she has two choices....kill it immediately (abortion) or give birth to the child and give it up for adoption. If she CHOOSES to do the latter, it is not slavery it is a freewill choice. I suggest you go find a family that has adopted a child and talk to them about the blessing the child has been to the family. Your thinking is muddled. Sit down and really think about how you are defining what makes someone human. THINK CAREFULLY!

The next 18-20 years of her life? Have you ever heard of adoption? She can give birth to the child and have notthing else to do with it if that is her choice. There are plenty of families willing to adopt. Death cannot be prevented. It is inevitable. It can, of course, be delayed in some cases. But that doesn't mean it should be. Again... why are you defining what makes someone a human being based on something other than objective intrinsic qualites. And if you feel yourself incapable of making that kind of judgment (which I agree with) then why do you decide the unborn are not human beings. Would not the safer choice be that they ARE human beings?

"But I say that that is ALL we have! Just beliefs! You seem to think you have absolute incontrovertible factual knowledge, sufficient to impose on the rest of us. I say you don't." We do... its called the Holy Bible.

Why shouldn't there be a "big exception" (though I don't really like that term in this context) for death by natural causes? People die. It happens. Not everyone grieves for each death. This does not make them any more or less a human being. Stop using this as an excuse for treating someone as not human. How I or others live their lives does not affect whether or not the unborn is human. Don't believe the unborn is or isn't human based on how other's treat it.

And yet....you support abortion....which is dispensing the ultimate penalty to the completly innocent.

What you or I believe about someone or how we treat them has no effect on whether or not they are a human being. You must agree with this. This applies to the fetus as well. Now....try to find some objective and intrinsic criteria to use to judge the fetus as not a human being.

As usual, you continue to confuse natural death with one artificially induced. There is a difference you know. Try using objecive, not subjective, critieria for deciding if it is human. How it is treated or what someone else thinks about it are not objective critieria.
Then it is your contention that it is the conservatives who, through their inaction, allow the left to prevail?
