I have noticed, near my home a private enterprise has built over twenty miles of toll...

I can still remember prior to the LBJ wealfare system being established, men like my Grandfather who tended a two acres garden all year round, and raised thousands of chickens and Partridge all year round would get in his old beat up pick-up around picking time, or slaughtering time and drive off for a while. Typically the next day at daylight there would be bunches of women, many with kids in tow showing up ready to harvest, or kill chickens.

The agreement I found out was, they were to work on the "thirds." But, what I also found out later in life, my grandfather never seem to "remember" to collect that "third" before these ladies went home.
