Of my 3 sons only one went to college. The other 2 went to pre-school and by high school had lost interest. Then there's that song: "When I look back on all the cr'p I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all."

Back in 1960 when I was in the 7th grade, they moved Algebra 1 from 9th to 8th grade, enabling students (so inclined) to fit in Calculus which hadn't previously been taught in that area anyway. I guess the pendulum is swinging.
