the history of the Jews in Israel (formerly called Palestine by the Romans to upset the Jews) is a long, but interesting read called, "From time immemorial" by historian and journalist Joan Peters. It should be the standard text for anyone trying to work in this area, but the truth is not wanted as much as favour of the oil rich Arabs. Originally this book was sponsored and researched on behalf of the Arabs who believed their own stories, but when the truth was uncovered by her research and much documentation they could not accept it and have been trying for many years to have it banned, burned or bought out the publishers. Pete Wehner is a real gentleman. His reproofs are generally not caustic and are almost always intended to have his opponents listen to what Lincoln called “the better angels of our nature.” Thus, when he recently criticized Kirsten Powers, he provided a most useful sketch of the history of Arab-Israeli conflicts in recent times, at least since 1967. Wehner’s column should be required reading for anyone taking part in Mideast policy discussions.
