Your sophistry is sophmoric--even a casual reader of law would know the "death panels" were not attempted murder--it is only by twsting words far out of context that such shallow statements as yours can emerge. And that's your problem--you mistake twisting concepts for being clever--a common trait among the shallow.

What's the difference between a liberal and a bumper sticker? Yeah, I can't tell them apart either--any suggestions?

Most people oppose Obamacare because they realize the cost savings are illusory. Most people polled know someone w/o insurance and wish something reasonable could be done.

The solution is to provide only catastrophic coverage to the uninsured, so they know they won't go bankrupt. Have them pay the first $5k of medical expenses each year. It provides a safety net, yet encourages people to get private health insurance.

Desirable locations are one major factor in selecting a convention city: costs are another. Our 12,000 person annual convention can only be held in major convention cities, for space reasons. We were in Chicago last year. A beautiful city--but costs were a full 40% higher than Anaheim, Philly, and Atlanta (sites of the last three conventions).

Union work rules raise the costs. We had a bulb go out in a projector--they sent 5 people to change the bulb (we were billed over $500). Sites are booked for the next three years--we vote on where to go in 2014 this summer: I'll be shocked if people vote to return to the Windy city. No one wants to pay higher dues just to convene there.

I like the column in general, and agree with the problem; But do want to correct one thought. If salaries have doubled since 1980, that means they have gone up on average 2.4% annually. That's nominal, not inflation adjusted.

I am a faculty member, and am not complaining about my salary (keep in mind, I am at a private school, and will not draw any pension)--I wanted to put that "doubling of salary" into perspective.

If you want to see where the waste is on campus, look at the faculty/staff phone book, and see how the ratio of faculty to staff has declined. Where I went to college in 1980, the 4 story admin building housed the offices of the President, Provost, Dean of the graduate school, VP of development,...
