We should have recognized then and there Afghanistan was a losing battle. That collection of tribes will never be governed by any kind of a free society. The Taliban or someone who would use totally brutal tactics would be able to rule simply because of fear. Fear and power are the only things they understand. I have much respect for Colonel Oliver North but he is wrong that we can do any lasting good in Afghanistan.

Last night during the final presidential debate of 2012, President Obama said we have "fewer horses and bayonets" during an exchange with Governor Mitt Romney. The comments were condescending, belittling and Obama implied the use of bayonets and horses was obsolete. This is not the case. Yes, Obama said "fewer" rather than "not at all," but let's take a look at how the military uses horses and bayonets today.
