No hyperbole here, that's for sure.
Yes, capital gains does tend to round off at about that. But that, too, doesn't sit well w/most people. And why should it? Why should a Mitt or a Warren pay less on passive income like that when a factory worker (the three that are left, anyway) pays more for all that sweat? If you believe in trickle down it makes sense. If you don't, it's a pile of horseshitTttt
Dude: We may disagree politically, but you're killing me, and I'll tell you why: I live in Manhattan; have been here for 11 years now. I love it, but I've got no outdoor space and can't grill. Before here I lived in DC and had a nice little row house with a backyard and used to grill almost every night. I'm dreaming of some nice swordfish steaks, with a quick lemon/olive oil marinade, some freshly ground pepper, a Bombay Sapphire martini aperitif and a nice cucumber/tomato salad. Dammit.
If you think an idiot like West, or the Tea Party lunatics, are the answer to Romney's problem you need to put down that glass pipe you're smoking from and get some help.
It's July where you are?
Sure, if Romney wants to get his asSsss whipped.
I live in New York City. My effective tax rate is 29.7%. Romney stated that his effective tax rate was about 15%. I understand that NYC is a high tax place, and I also understand that someone who is "solidly....lower middle class" may pay an effective rate of 15%. I make about $375K/year. That is CHUMP change to someone like Romney, although it may seem like a lot. But the fact of the matter is that the average middle class American will not easily accept that someone who made $20MM in a year paid 15% ETR, even if they paid the same. Romney knows this, and this is why he won't release those returns. I'm sure they're perfectly legit and within the law. But they're bad press, and he knows it. He's a victim of legit loopholes for the rich.
Reposting a response to me from a while ago from Tish6: "Buddy...what world are you in. I am solidly middle class to lower middle class and have NEVER paid more than 10 -15% effective tax rate. I work in a CPA office and prepare tax returns for a living...and I have a few clients that are considered rich and they are paying the 30 and 40% in taxes that you claim that I am. If you are paying 30 to 40% in taxes then may I suggest you pay for a competent tax preparer" (con't)
"...if you believe that your a gullible imbisile" Kinda says it all, doesn't it?
Nahhh,,, I make my money the old fashioned way. I earn it. But nice retort: I see you avoided the issue. Not surprising.
Not only is Romney unable to release his tax returns and reveal the TRUE tax rate that enormously wealthy people pay, while the middle class pony up 30-40% of their income: He's such a dunce that he publicly says that paying more would "disqualify" him from the presidency. If he ever DOES release them, he's toast because the Republican game of using rich people to deceive regular people about what's in their interest will be exposed, and his idiotic statement will make him look that much more callous about it. If he doesn't, he's got something to hide. Not anything criminal: What he's got to hide is the LEGALITY of his tax rate. He's in a lose-lose situation.
