When we have our national Rodney King moment after Zimmerman is acquitted, I hop NBC gets sued for doctoring the tape to make Zimmerman look like a racist.

not gonna happen,you have to PROVE that the media had -intent- to harm you for slander or libel suits against the "press". it's pretty tough to win such a suit.
Since so many in the media cannot resist turning every tragedy into a political talking point, it was perhaps inevitable that (1) someone would try to link the shooting rampage at the Batman movie in Colorado to the Tea Party, and that (2) some would try to make it a reason to impose more gun control laws.
