Invincible Ignorance

C'mon John, Mr. Sowell is trying to have that conversation. And what he is saying is that there are a number of studies that show that tighter gun control laws have exacerbated, not lessened the problem. The reason the NRA comes out immediately in the aftermath of a tragedy like Sandy is that gun control advocates are so swift to use these tragedies as a platform for stricter gun control. It has been my observation that the gun control advocates nearly always begin this unproductive avenue of discourse. On the other hand, it seems that given the number of studies that show gun control isn't effective we might try to have a discussion about what kinds of ailments in society are causing this in the first place.
