What did Jesus say about "giving", well first it should be done in secret, "let not the right hand know what the left hand doeth",(Matthew 6:3-5), in other words, not seeking the praise of men in tithing, no one need know what any other are, or are not, giving, God knows, let that be enough reward. The rich have no problem giving, for they give from their abundance, no great loss for them, no sacrifice on their part, their belly is their god, their heart is far from God who give in boasting. The poor give from their heart, wanting to honor and glorify God who has provided for them, and thus they desire to give in obedience to God's ordinance on tithings.

As I prepare to spend a week teaching the book of Jeremiah to Chinese pastors in Hong Kong, I’ve been reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of the Church in America. Regrettably, the list of negatives is longer than the list of positives.

To be clear, though, I’m speaking of the circles in which I travel, meaning evangelical Christian circles, so my observations might not apply to other Christian groups in America.
