What sort of evidence would you expect when no one is looking? Absent any coherent system to identify fraudulent voters, the detection of a fraudulent voter would be pure happenstance. Why spend so much time, money and energy to protect our most precious asset, our right to vote? If you need to ask that question, it's unlikely that any answer would suffice.
At Barack Obama's campaign event yesterday, attendees were asked to bring photo ID in order to get in to see the President. Apparently they've faced issues of "fraud" - people showing up who aren't actually supporters of the President.

Jessica Kershaw, the Obama campaign's Ohio Press Secretary, confirmed in a statement to BuzzFeed that the campaign checked every supporter's identification at the door.

"We checked every ID at the door to make sure it matched with the name on the ticket that supporters filled out," she said. "We did this for every person who came in."...
