Sex and money gained and used dishonorably has always been an alarm signal that someone could be coerced into compromising security. It is everybody's business when you have security clearances. It is no surprise that Petraeus was investigated. The surprise is how long it took for him to resign. Obama's campaign was more important than national security!

Either that or Patreus figured that since two higher-ranking cabinet members whose failures were of the professional variety (rather than the personal variety as his were) which failures resulted in actual, violent American deaths didn't resign, maybe he didn't have to either.

The General's last name is Petraeus, not Patreus

Retired, four-star Army Gen. David Petraeus is paying the price for his hubris in much the same way as did the mythical figure Icarus who, like Petraeus, thought himself invincible but discovered otherwise when he flew too close to the sun before crashing back to earth. The now-retired CIA Director flew not too close to the sun, but rather ignored basic rules of secrecy, and ran afoul of the virtually limitless powers of surveillance we have placed in the hands of the FBI and other government agencies.

Like former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer before him, Petraeus’ sexual peccadillos were unmasked...
