The last federal agency that claimed this power -- to shut down any business and jail its owners -- was FDR's beloved National Recovery Administration. Not incidentally it was found unconstitutional by a unanimous Supreme Court -- prompting FDR to attempt to pack the court. And that attempt so frightened the Supremes, that they never again found any federal agency or regulatory body unconstitutional. So don't look for redress from that direction.
Liberals march to save the baby seals, because they are white and fluffy, but demand to kill baby humans, especially the ones who are not white and fluffy.
To Obama "growth = growth of government employment. And Middle Class = government employees + benefits recipients. And where does the money to pay them come from? The Treasury prints it. Like Obama and Krugman, I too studied economics at Harvard.

I like your attitude, but I don't like that you get your bogus history from the same bogus Lefty textbooks that the Lefties re-lie on. Single payer national health care came within 2-3 votes of passing the Senate during the Wilson administration, 1916. It had been on the Progressive agenda for a generation before that.

Media are partisan. They have been since the first line of (wooden) type kissed the first sheet of (rag) paper. And they always will be. So quite whining about this and get over it... Fight for what is Right. The bad guys will fight back, hard and dirty. Just don't be them. You can beat them.
Mr Friedman: It took you a while to get around to your actual point, but when you finally did (middle of page 2) it was spot on. Counterinsurgency assumes an existing friendly AND viable government in a country for us to support. Looking around the world, I see a handful of viable governments, half a handful of friendly governments, and not a lot of overlap in the two groups. But counterterrorism, that's a whole other matter. The most it needs from other countries is overflight and basing rights, to save us money, although as long as we have a carrier force, they are optional. Counterterrorism means hammering an enemy wherever he is, and throwing in a little collateral damage to punish his enablers, such as Pakistan.

"A General is not so much blamed for making trial of an ill-digested project, as he will be for the obstinate continuing in the same. Therefore the speediest leaving of any such enterprise doth excuse the rashness which might be imputed to the beginning." - George Monck, 1646. Relevant in 1862. Relevant now, and tomorrow.

You have a potentially valid case to make. But you will not make it by lying with irrelevant statistics. Leave the random numbers to the liberals. Stick to cause and effect.

From Innovation to Rent Seeking

In history, patents were grants of royal monopoly to favored courtiers. Today they are rent seeking, pure and simple. Microsoft adds no value, and never has. It collects tolls on bridges it did not build.
