Even death row inmates who murder get a last meal. At least THEIR stomachs are full and body hydrated. It would just be inhuman to let them go to the gurney on an empty stomach. Too bad, Terri, you should have killed somebody..maybe then you're death would have been merciful and quick!
EDITOR'S NOTE: Eluana Englaro's death was announced the evening of Monday, February 9, after Mr. Schindler wrote this commentary. President Giorgio Napolitano has yet to sign the decree.

On Friday, February 6, the Italian government passed a temporary decree law drafted to prohibit the removal of food and hydration from vulnerable patients that, in particular, would prevent Eluana Englaro from being dehydrated to death. The decree has been approved by all necessary legislative bodies, however, Giorgio Napolitano, President of the Italian Republic is refusing to sign off on the decree which would save Eluana’s life.
