Certainly it was fair. It is either naive or mendacious to assert they were concerned about history. There is great danger and little benefit in trying "to rid our government of every last connection to religion." I am not an active believer, but I recognize that religion has held many core ideals for this and other civilizations, and efforts to disconnect from it routinely also disconnect from the ideals also.

That said, enforced religion is itself very dangerous. Permitted and respected religion is not.

This past weekend, after President Obama addressed the annual retreat of Republican Members of the House, I, along with my Salem Radio colleague Hugh Hewitt, and John Fund of the Wall Street Journal, were also invited to address them.

This is an abridged and edited version of my remarks.
