There is a White House cooking staff, including a head chef and a head pastry chef. These extremely talented folks can whip up whatever the Obama's want, at any time of day or night, courtesy of the US taxpayer. From lobster to spam, all they have to do is ask. But the food must get so boring at the WH, so off on the town they go.

I will admit, however, that their date night in Georgetown is easier on my wallet than their dinner and a movie in Manhattan.

But their recent trips to Copenhagen, to give narcissistic speeches laced with references to I, me and mine, were much worse. The taxpayers shelled out $1.2 million for that farce.

Over the weekend President and First Lady Obama celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary with a dinner at the Blue Duck Tavern in Georgetown.  Mark Silva wrote at The Swamp politics blog that he was troubled “that a simple date at a relatively modestly priced Washington restaurant to celebrate a wedding anniversary - the first for the first couple in the White House - could generate as much venom as it has.”  He said it “suggests something deeply troubling about the American mood.”
