The 47 million uninsured are generally very healthy. That is why they don't need healthcare, choose not to pay for insurance or have not already fallen on government programs like Medicaid. There is only a small number that need intensive medical care. The vast majority require routine physicals and general maintenance care. If there are 47 million people uninsured, there are some 250 million plus who are already getting care who are being taken care of now. The 47 million don't need specialists generally. They simply need competent young doctors who can provide a general physical, treat the most common of illnesses and have the knowledge to know when to refer.
The professional chattering class - the men and women who appear on television and radio and explain how the world works to the rest of us- are fond of castigating politicians who vote on complex legislation without having read the bills. It seems the politicians are not the only ones who refuse to let ignorance get in the way of expressing an opinion.
