The Mexican American war determined for all time the character of the North American continent. Before the war, the continent was divided in half One nation was founded by people who wanted nothing but religious and political freedom. The other nation was founded by Spain, a renegade nation that had broken away from the mainstream of European Civilization with its fanatical militaristic Catholicism.

There is no way that this wasn't going to lead to an armed conflict at some point. And this issue was solved with a minimum of bloodshed. How many tens of millions died in wars to determine dominance of Europe? How many died in this war, 10,000? I'msupposed to feel shame about this?
