A few years ago my grandaughter, noticing that I am very political, asked what was the differences between a Democrat and a Republican. She said she hears those names but doesn't know what they meant. She was 12 years of age at the time. I explained the Republican want you to provide for your family need with hard work and ideas. The Democrat says to four people, I'm going to give you each .25cents. She asked how he could do that, I said he takes $1.00 from one other person and distributes it to them. She said that's not fair. I think all twelve year olds should be able to vote.

Bramps -- so you lied to your granddaughter?

Studies have shown that welfare programs increase under GOP presidents -- often by executive order. You should have told her that they are two wings of the same party intent upon destroying the middle class of America.

Too bad not all kids are as bright as your grandaughter.

I still remember 7th grade where the teacher was trying to explain scarcity as it relates to economics. The question that first got asked was "why don't we just print more money so that everyone has enough?"

Unfortunately, today's Democrats still think this is a viable option.

The theme that most seemed to rouse the enthusiasm of delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte was that we are all responsible for one another -- and that Republicans don't want to help the poor, the sick and the helpless.

All of us should be on guard against beliefs that flatter ourselves. At the very least, we should check such beliefs against facts.

Yet the notion that people who prefer economic decisions to be made by individuals in the market are not as compassionate as people who prefer those decisions to be made collectively by politicians is...
