That's right! We should not redefine marriage. Whites should not marry blacks. Mexicans should not marry whites. Asians should not....wait...oh. you are talking about gender not the last time we "redefined" marriage and those opposed used the bible as justification.

Anyone using the Bible to justify racism is using it falsely.

And comparing race/nationality to gender or sexual preference? Oh, please. That's not just apples vs. oranges. That's apples vs. lightposts.

That doesn't change the fact that for decades, the bible was used to justify racism. The curse of Ham was frequently cited. While you may think it is wrong and most would agree with you today, it wasn't that long ago that people believed that this passage justified their views. The bible is being used in a very similar way with homosexuality. So why isn't it a fair comparison?

It's ironic that now the Bible is being used by some to (improperly) justify homosexuality.

So, see? Equal opportunity Scripture abusers.

Well why is their interpretation any more improper than those who use the bible to condemn homosexuality? The bible can be twisted and construed to justify anything and it has over the centuries. I don't see the logic in applying the same logic when it has the same flaws on other issues.

I am not using the bible to justify homosexuality. Rather, I pointing how this would not bethe first time we changed who can and cannot marry and how those opposed to the change used the bible to justify their opposition.

In your view, race and sexual orientation are very different because racism is wrong and homophobia is ok but it was not long ago many thought they were both totally justified and people used the bible to justify their feelings. It will not be long before almost all people realize there is no rational reason for homophobia, just like there is none for racism. You clearly don't realize this for homophobia but your future family members will.

When was the last time you attended a heterosexual pride parade? All the homos want is inclusion & acceptance. Not willing to give them marriage, civil union,ok, not marriage.

Much of the debate surrounding same-sex marriage asks about societal harms. Many advocates of the change quickly dismiss the question and insist that a redefinition of marriage won’t hurt anyone. But that conclusion proceeds from a misperception about what marriage is—a failure to grasp marriage’s role as a public institution that shapes our thoughts and actions.

Marriage is not merely a legal arrangement that bestows various benefits and...
