Solving Whose Problem?

Some of you proposed the solution of term limits whereas others said it would be too hard to impliment. I agree that it will be hard but I cannot think of another simple solution that will save our country. If we have term limits and the politician knows that his job is not a life-time appointment but a short-term public service, he or she will hopefully vote for the country's good and not for what is best for their re-election. I believe that if you couple term limits with a balanced budget requirement, that the country can be righted. Some of you say that we already have term limits- elections, but lets be honest- most voters vote almost by rote, whether it is by party or for that guy that has been in office for decades.

No one will really understand politics until they understand that politicians are not trying to solve our problems. They are trying to solve their own problems-- of which getting elected and re-elected are number one and number two. Whatever is number three is far behind.

Many of the things the government does that may seem stupid are not stupid at all, from the standpoint of the elected officials or bureaucrats who do these things.
