So, Ron, the obvious answer is to prevent such an attack in the first place. That means keeping nukes out of the hands of nations, people and NGOs that are not deterred by Mutually Assured Destruction. And since Hagel seems quite willing to allow Iran to continue on its path to build a deliverable nuke, he is a serious danger to our well being and survival, just as Obama is. On top of that, Hagel's Global Zero plan would move us into a position where we would not be able to make Iran a "1000 year nuclear wasreland", even if we could be certain it was Iran that attacked us. Besides, why should we wait to be attacked? Do we need Pearl Harbor or 9-11 on an even more massive scale before we do something about the threat?

In the run-up to the Senate Armed Services Committee's hearing this Thursday on Chuck Hagel's fitness to become the next Secretary of Defense, its members have been treated to the spectacle of the nominee spinning at the RPM of a prima ballerina.

Evidently, the former Nebraska senator has very low regard for those now serving in the Senate. He seems confident that they will either not see through - or at least not object to - his concerted efforts to: disavow his well-documented public record; obscure his serial, faulty judgments; and ignore the harm both suggest he is prepared to do,...
